Five Ways To Get The Most From Your Wedding Hair Trial!

Finding the perfect hairstyle for your wedding can be a bit daunting and this is why a trial run with your chosen stylist is essential. The trial usually takes place 2-4 months before the big day and helps the stylist to get to know you a little, to understand the themes of your wedding and to get a feel for your hair type and face shape, so that he or she can guide you to find ‘the one’. These five top tips should help you get the most from your trial.

  • First of all, it may seem obvious, but make sure you have chosen a hairstylist whose work you love! Have a good look at their portfolio on their Instagram and website. If their styles don’t seem to match what you had in mind, there is a good chance that he or she is not the right stylist for you. It’s also a great idea to have a chat on the phone before booking the trial. A good stylist will ask you lots of questions and also listen to your ideas. Make sure you also send over some images of your dress.

  • Go to the trial with an open mind. Pinterest images can be a really helpful tool to explain what styles you love, but depending on your hair type, colour and length, it may not be possible to recreate the look exactly. For example, if you have dark, monotone hair, those blond braided boho styles which you love on Instagram will look very different on you!

  • Don’t be afraid to communicate with your stylist exactly what you are thinking. For me, I see the trial as a collaboration between bride and stylist. A trained professional will be able to offer many different looks, so if you’re not feeling it on one particular style, just say! Sometimes knowing what you hate is just as helpful as knowing what you love!

  • It’s a great idea to have someone with you who will give you an honest opinion, like your mum or a trusted bridesmaid, but failing that, don’t forget to take lots of photos. Remember to bring any accessories you may be thinking about having in your hair as this may influence the style which you choose. A good stylist should have a variety of bridal hair pins, combs and clips in their kit, if you haven’t yet made up your mind. It’s also a good idea to wear something white or in a neutral colour. Patterned or bold coloured tops can distract from the hairstyle.

  • Be open to the possibility of your stylist using some clip in hair extensions to create your look. So many of those gorgeous styles you see on Pinterest have used clip ins, so why not you on your wedding day?! They are versatile, great for adding volume or length and are very easily hidden, so no one will ever know! Your stylist will be able to match your colour and recommend which brand to purchase.

Above all else, your trial should be enjoyable and fun!
